FOCUS AREA

Digestive Health

When your digestion is unpredictable, it can affect much more than your stomach.

Bloating, constipation, diarrhea, reflux, abdominal discomfort, food-related symptoms, and unpredictable bathroom habits can make everyday life frustrating. And when you've been trying to figure out what is causing your symptoms, it can be tempting to jump from one diet, supplement, or restriction to the next.

At Carolina Functional Nutrition, we take a personalized approach to digestive health. We look at your symptoms, health history, nutrition, lifestyle, and other relevant factors to better understand the bigger picture — because digestive symptoms rarely exist in isolation.

THE CONNECTION

Your Gut Is Connected to More Than Digestion

  • Your digestive system plays an important role in your overall health, which is why we don't look at gut symptoms as an isolated problem.
  • Sleep, stress, nutrition, food choices, lifestyle, and other aspects of your health can all be relevant pieces of the picture. What matters most will look different from person to person.
  • That's also why we don't believe there is one "perfect" gut health diet that works for everyone.

Nutrition

NUTRITION FIRST

There's No Replacement for a Good Diet

  • Supplements can have a place. Testing can have a place. But there's no replacement for a good diet.
  • Before adding a long list of supplements or eliminating more and more foods, we look at the basics: what you're eating, how you're eating, your digestive symptoms, your daily routine, and what may be getting in the way of meeting your nutritional needs.
  • From there, we can determine what additional support may actually make sense for you.

Framework

THE FRAMEWORK

A 5R Approach to Gut Health

  • When appropriate, Rhya uses the 5R approach to digestive health:
  • Remove — Identify and address factors that may be contributing to digestive symptoms.
  • Replace — Support digestion with the nutrients and digestive factors your body may need.
  • Reinoculate — Support a healthy and balanced gut microbiome.
  • Repair — Provide nutritional support for the digestive tract.
  • Rebalance — Look at the bigger picture, including lifestyle factors that can influence digestive health.
  • The 5R framework isn't a rigid protocol. Your symptoms, history, and needs determine where to focus and what makes sense for you.

Your plan

YOUR PLAN

Personalized Support for Digestive Health

  • Whether you're dealing with IBS, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, or other ongoing digestive concerns, the goal is to understand what's happening rather than simply chase symptoms.
  • Depending on your situation, nutrition support may include evaluating your current diet, identifying potential nutrition gaps, looking at food-related symptoms, supporting healthy digestion and regularity, and determining whether additional testing or evaluation could be useful.
  • We don't believe more restriction, more supplements, or more testing automatically means better results. The right approach is the one that makes sense for your individual situation.
